Three Robins

There were three robins

as the news hit my heart.

Running my hands

through the sands of time.

Pulling clouds

from a lamp-shaded sun

on an afternoon in June.

They tilted their heads to the side.

Messengers sent to listen.

To report back to a God

I cannot understand.
