One for the Books
A poem by Julia R. DeStefano
One for the Books
I sat up watching the Christmas Tree.
The pulsation of the bulbs.
Blue, yellow, purple, green, red.
Envisioning you pressed up against me
in that small space.
I want to be red for courage.
Fearlessly confronting the drum of my heart
with each inhale, exhale
of our quickening breath.
Red for the passion emanating
from my eyes, lips, body
while your fingertips sink
into the softness of my robe.
Red in my burning desire
for someone to remember us
and how we come alive.
Mad for each other
like a lost ingredient
found.
