On Being

Who am I if not the proclaimer of yes

in a world of no?

The darer of lightning to strike –

the reminder of a heart on fire?

I am an uncontrollable blaze

impossible to extinguish,

unconquerable against all odds.

I am a star map

of undiscovered constellations

long sought -

viewable only to the practiced precise.

I am a Red Queen awaiting coronation,

though it is you who has arrived at my altar.

I orchestrate circumstance into meaning.

I love with the fervor of my bones.

I practice a prayer in my mind.

I think the world is too much,

but I am still in it.

I am a writer with a simple truth:

nothing in this world

is too unimportant to write about.
