Hold Fast

A poem by Julia R. DeStefano
When the world goes dark, hold fast to the ones who bathe you in their light.
Hold Fast
We overuse our exclamation points,
laughing like run-on sentences,
bearing smiles that could rearrange continents
in my silent prayer
that the roses remain red -
an illumination of pain transformed -
so you know that there’s only light
and the taste of hope
when I’m close to you.
